A well made early Geo III mahogany kneehole desk in the manner of Giles Grendy, of unusual form and features. Slightly oversized it holds a presence of quality craftsmanship, with cleated ends to the top with moulded edges, above a long fitted drawer with a baize lined slide to reveal fitted compartments underneath, above a secret kneehole drawer with panelled door underneath, flanked by sets of shorter drawers underneath. All with the original unusual brass swan beck handles with bold penny backplates and stoppers, plus original bold brass escutcheons and working iron key. Raised on original bracket feet with carved lugs, and sunken barrel castors. Excellent colour and patina. Circa 1750.
