A large Early C19th Italian Pietra Dura Panel, the black marble background inlaid with various specimen precious marbles depicting a finely executed and colourful scene of butterflies hovering around a flowering branch, the expert use of marble and the way it has been mounted in the background giving a realistic 3D effect. Mounted with a faux shagreen decorated border and gilt moulded frame. Circa 1820. In generally good condition, there is a historic minor repair to the black marble on one corner which is stable and doesn’t detract from the article.
